5 Instant Age Erasers

Okay, you can’t really erase age and no laughter lines means your face is a no LOLS zone but there are some make-up ruts that can make you look jaded and some quick fixes that will instantly give your complexion a boost and shave at least a couple of months off that punishing late-night Netflix schedule…

Skincare Routine

Many people have had the same skincare routine for years, sometimes DECADES. It’s time for a change! Your skin can get as jaded by routine as you do, so changing things up from time to time will give it a wake-up. As your skin gets older, it produces less oil, so think about switching to a richer formulation moisturiser with anti ageing ingredients, introduce some Vitamin C and exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate…

Foundation

It’s time to ditch those heavy, matte foundations in favour of lighter formulations or even a tinted moisturiser. Your favourite fail safe cover-up may well be ageing you by clinging to wrinkles and accentuating lines. A lighter formulation will be much more flattering, giving a more youthful, dewy look. It’s also a good idea to use powder more sparingly as you age for similar reasons.

Concealers

Under eye circles are an issue for most people and although you might have been using concealer for years, it may be ageing you more than you think. Opt for creamier versions that won’t settle into any fine lines that you may have. Choose a shade one tone lighter than your base and apply with your fingers for a more natural, wide eyed look.

Eyes

Your eyelash curlers are about to become your best friend! These strange looking contraptions will give the illusion of opening up your eyes in an instant. Follow with a good mascara for age defying eyes.

Liquid eyeliner can look a little heavy, try a good kohl with amazing staying power and smudge into the lash line instead. Opt for softer colours instead of black for a different look.

And don’t forget those brows! There’s nothing more face changing than the shape of your eyebrows. Overly plucked is not a good idea (scrawny is not flattering) and too harsh and heavy can also be ageing but do create clean lines and defined arches with attention paid to those upper, outer edges to open up the eyes and lift the face.

Oh wait! And as we get older, skipping mascara on the bottom lashes can make eyes look more awake. Lower lash soot can draw attention to fine lines and under eye droop and focussing on the upper lashes draws the eye up and out. But then again, if it’s your thing and you love it  – keep doing it.

Lipliner

Lining lips with a lipliner can not only help with keeping your lipstick where it should be, but can also help to make your lips look fuller. Don’t venture too far out of your lip line and apply with light feathery strokes for a natural finish. We don’t mean heavy contrast lipliner here, unless you’re feeling extremely 90’s supermodel.
