Top 5 Cleansers

The backbone of a good skincare routine. You need a backbone.

1
Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser, 125ml, £21

WHY WE LOVE IT

This has a really nurturing feel that never leaves your skin feeling stripped of oil. It bubbles beautifully on the face leaving skin feeling super soft and really, really cleansed. Enriched with Shea Butter and Pro-vitamin B5, our panellists loved the way it left their skin feeling plumped and happy. It takes off make-up and the day brilliantly and is especially good for dry, sensitive skin.

“This smells gorgeous and feels lovely and nurturing on your skin.  It foams up really well and washes off easily, leaving my skin feeling very comfortable and super clean.”

2
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, 150ml, £30

WHY WE LOVE IT

This is a little bit disconcerting on first use, in that is has an unusual gel-like consistency that doesn’t foam as you might expect. But this really is a product worth sticking with! Blended with amino acid – rich soy proteins, calming cucumber extract and balancing rose water it acts as a great cleanser, even removing mascara and simultaneously soothing and toning.  Great for sensitive skin and all our testers loved the delicate, fresh smell.

“I think this is amazing – it’s an excellent product.  The only problem is that I get through it too quickly!”

3
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Daily Foaming Cleanser, 120ml, £32

WHY WE LOVE IT

Not only does this smell divine but it foams well without drying out the skin. It gently exfoliates without being too harsh and leaves the skin looking bright and glowing.

“I like to use a glycolic face cleanser in the shower in the morning and with no access to my favourite one, which happened to be from USA, I set out to find one to buy in the UK.  After trying several, I came across this one from Kate Somerville, and when thinking of how to describe it to you, the feel and luxuriousness of satin came to mind. It is a foaming glycolic wash, with no ‘bits’ in it and feels gorgeous on the skin, luscious, smooth, gentle with a barely perceptible perfume to it.  Afterwards, skin feels bright, not tight and glowing with health.  Comes in a tube, so easy to throw in a bag when travelling and you only need a small amount so will last for ages.  I really love it.”

4
Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel, 100ml, £35

WHY WE LOVE IT

A gel to oil cleanser that really does melt into the skin giving a lovely enveloped feeling. It removes all make-up and grime super effectively and contains Vitamins A, C & E, Omega 6, Starflower Oil, Pumpkin Enzymes, Chamomile & Rose which not only smell divine but actively illuminate and nourish the skin leaving you with gorgeously soft and yes, we would say a more radiant complexion.  Great for acne scars, dry skin, oily skin (with a muslin), dull skin and pigmentation. A great all-rounder.

“My skin always looks brighter and radiant when I use this cleanser.  The gel to oil formula leaves my skin feeling nourished and hydrated but not too squeaky clean.”

5
The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser, 50ml, £5.50

WHY WE LOVE IT

This is a dual purpose cleanser as it can be used wit a hot cloth or as a straight forward rinse off cleanser. The texture is rich and balmy and you can really feel the make-up slipping off your face. The star ingredient is squalane, which found naturally in the skin, helps prevent loss of moisture and boosts suppleness. Skin feels thoroughly cleansed after use and this really does seem to be a suit-all-skins product. A good size bottle for a very good price.

“This feels very gentle but is extremely effective in removing make up.  No tightness or dryness, just comfortable, clean skin.  A great first step in your cleansing routine and a great price point too.”
